Sibes need lots of exercise!
They were bred by the nomadic Chukchi tribe of northeastern Asia approximately 3,000 years ago to pull sleds and herd reindeer. They are very strong and capable of hauling loads over long distances and rough terrain. Therefore - a tired Sibe is a happy Sibe.
Finding ways to exercise your Sibe doesn't have to be a challenge. There are many options such as walking, biking, scootering, hiking, the list goes on and on. Choosing the form of exercise for your Sibe should match your lifestyle.
Apartment dwelling Sibe owners take their Sibes for frequent walks during the day. Many cities have recently opened fenced dog parks for dog owners to exercise their pets and socialize them with other dogs. Owners who enjoy bike riding can purchase equipment to safely ride with their Sibes by their sides. A large fenced yard is a great way for a Sibe to burn off energy and keep themselves entertained. Having more than one Sibe is also a great way for them to burn off excess energy give them compoanionship when you are not at home.
Remember to never have your Sibe off leash without being in a fenced area of 6 feet or higher. They can scale five foot fences and easily travel forty miles in one day. "Houdini" or "Escape Artist" is a common nickname many owners call their Sibes. Their constant instinct to roam will outweigh any training they have had.
