Keeping Confined Dogs Happy

Dr Julia Adams BVSc - Petalia Resident VetRead 351 time(s)

With most people's busy lifestyles, dogs are left alone at home for extended periods. Left without stimulation, or opportunity to exercise, animals quickly get bored. The amount of exercise and stimulation a dog needs depends on its breed, and its age, and whether there is another animal with which to interact.

No Pet Store Puppies!

By Skye HaywardRead 475 time(s)

There is an issue that I feel very passionately about- the purchase of puppies from pet stores. Particuarly with "special needs" breeds like huskies, the sale of puppies in pet shops is only assisting in these beautiful and special animals ending up in rescue or worse!

The Way of the Heart

By Katerina PaleckovaRead 859 time(s)

It isn't often that I post news to our website news block, that have nothing to do with our dogs, puppies, kennel life, show and race results, training progress, etc. But in fact, this article I have decided to write (or have been meaning to do so for a while, but now found the right moment with two wonderful examples, described below) has, after all A LOT to do with us!

The Light and Love in Laska's World

By Aleeya BrassRead 692 time(s)

On the 22 June 2003 a very special girl made her entrance into the world. She was the last born in a litter of five girls and was easily identified by a large white diamond down the back of her neck which also encompassed her shoulder blades.

Husky Containment

By Penny BlankenshipRead 1950 time(s)

There's an old saying among experienced husky owners: "Where there's a husky, there's a way". For those of you thinking of becoming the owner of a very daring, intelligent, and full of energy breed, the advice in this article is not an exaggeration, it is advice that needs to be taken to heart to keep your new husky from escaping.

A Spring in Your Step

By Scott SkiRead 721 time(s)

Here in Southern California rain is not so much a seasonal occurrence as much as it is an occasional experience. It comes so rarely that most of us seldom make preparations or take precautions. Besides, even with all their sophisticated gear, the weather forecaster's predictions are still about as accurate as if they were idly tossing darts at a board in some pub... blindfolded.

By the Light of the Moon

By Scott SkiRead 713 time(s)

OK, I admit it. I really despise fast-food, children's meals. So does Robbi. However...and I truly hate to admit this part...they do have those cute toys. And, although one can buy the items separately, it is a better value to buy the whole kiddy meal. No, we don't actually eat the food. No adult human in his or her right mind does. So, Taz, of course, got the burger.

Vampire Flies and Pink Huskies

By Scott SkiRead 964 time(s)

"There is nothing funnier than the human animal." -- Walt Disney Even though it is the middle of Spring, it seems Halloween has arrived in full vigor with all of the attendant costumes, trick, treating, and horror tales.

The Great Escape

By Scott SkiRead 749 time(s)

A fiery Sibe with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a Hearty "HI YO SILVER!!" This was the phrase that came to mind when I awoke to unfamiliar noises about 2 am and found Robbi out in the front yard with Taz.

19

Moving Experience

By Scott SkiRead 705 time(s)

The sun has set, however the energy level of the huskies is just rising. Cooped up in the house most of the day, they roar in unison into the yard, flanging out in various directions to explore and conduct "business."

Being Pack Leader

By Michael JenningsRead 1234 time(s)

Due to some comment or other on a Siberian list, I was asked if I'd write something on "leadership" or being a good pack leader. I explained that for me it's mostly an intuitive thing, that I'm someone who believes the better part of any knowledge is usually intuitive, and that I really had no specific methodology. But I did agree to give it a try.
